Wohlklang

BIOGRAPHY

The Hamburg-based composer and producer duo Martin Fekl and Kim Kiesling has been adding melodiousness to film and advertising since 1998. Until the summer of 2008 they resided at Studio 2 of “Soundgarden”, meanwhile they have moved to their spacious new premises in Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel, the former location of the legendary MOB Studios where Die Ärzte have made records and the soundtrack for Fatih Akin’s “kurz und schmerzlos” (“Short Sharp Shock”) was recorded.

Martin Fekl from Nuremberg began his musical career on the piano at the age of nine, then passionately took up playing the guitar, played in various bands, studied Jazz in Munich under Peter Omara.
In 1989, Fekl came to Hamburg for a record production, fell in love with the city and stayed. He was involved in several bands and releases, trained to be a sound engineer at the SAE Institute and joined the renowned Hamburg music studios “Soundgarden” where various landmark releases were recorded in the years that followed. In 1995, he formed the ever popular act Lovekrauts in which the Danish rock´n´roller Kim Kiesling played the bass. Kiesling travelled all over Europe as a musician, playing live and for studio productions and was particularly sought after for TV appearances. The Lovekrauts released two albums on Intercord and Soulciety, and toured across Germany. When the band split up, the two of them set up Wohlklang Musikproduktion.
Wohlklang produces originals, avoids “moving digital bricks around” by not using pre-fabricated music blocks. Wohlklang’s strength lies in their passion for music and authenticity – in their art of condensing songs and arrangements to the deciding seconds of a commercial, in the perfect hand-made composition. And also in the very varied musical realization of a song, be it classical or modern, be it in a band or electro line-up: best exemplified by all the different versions of “Sail Away” in the Becks beer commercials in the last few years.
Since they can’t stop playing live and making records, Martin and Kim formed the band “Johnny Liebling” in 2003. They produced the album “Goldene Zeiten” and the formation was soon signed by Universal. In 2006 the second album, “nur nicht nach haus”, followed (also on Universal).
